French hot dog, the best

You are here:

The French hot dog is a simple and popular fast food that is common in Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe, but it does not originate from France as the name suggests. Its origins lie rather in practicality and the simplification of fast food consumption.

A French hot dog is based on a long, soft baguette or baguette-like bread with a long hole drilled in the middle. Hot sausages are placed in this hole and seasoned with various sauces such as mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup. The popularity of the French hot dog is due to the fact that it is easy to carry and less likely to get your hands dirty, as the sauces stay inside the bread.

It is likely that the name of the French hot dog refers to the type of bread, which is similar to the French baguette, or to the fact that the simplicity of the preparation of the dish is combined with an image of "elegance" and "Frenchness". The ease of preparation and the fact that it is less smeary are rapidly spreading in various countries, particularly in petrol stations, buffets and festivals. One thing to remember, however, is that the flavour is sublime, in perfect harmony with the optional sauces, and the excellent sausage! Yes, sausage, because the French hot dog is not made with sausages, but with sausages with a unique flavouring.
